The Council of Gran Canaria, through the Economic Promotion Society (SPEGC), and Indra, a leading global consulting and technology group, launched the Ventures4GranCanaria initiative on 4 July, 2017.

The objective of the initiative was to promote the sustainable development of Gran Canaria through the application of smart technologies in strategic areas for the island, such as tourism, energy, environment, marine and coastal, industry 4.0., smart cities, mobility, cybersecurity, social and citizen participation.

The three winning projects from the challenge were: Hydraredox large scale energy storage solutions, PicComunica autism spectrum disorders and Liight promoting mobile applications for sustainable habitats.
